i think people should dress as individually as possible for as long as possible. why should social uniformity play such a major factor in peoples lives?
I think I am at the age you are talking about LOL, at home you can wear exactly what you like, however we’ve all seen those more mature people say late forties early fiftes who are starting to show their lives on their faces, who persist in dressing like they are still twenty, and lets face it we all turn and look and think how foolish they are and that it doesn’t work. so socially I would say around 45 plus you need to start thinking about it a bit more and 50 plus be quite careful .
I’m not sure that people stop dressing differently because they no longer feel it is socially acceptable. I think it is more that they grow out of the need to feel unique.
I would say about 25
There isn’t (And Shouldn’t) be an ‘Age Limit’ on individual style - people of many different ages and cultures express their own sense of style.
As for ‘Age - Appropriate’ style, - That’s different and depends on how well the person(s) in question can “Pull-It-Off”. I’ve seen people wear clothes that were definitely not appropriate for them and others who looked great in the same outfit even though they were the same age or even older. (Or MUCH Younger)
I think everyone should dress as well as they can. Teens and young girls shouldn’t dress provocatively for obvious reasons. Not at any age. And young men *and* young women should dress appropriately to get them into the habit of representing themselves as responsible, intelligent young adults. So I don’t agree that any age at all is when it is acceptable to dress poorly, working, school or on their own time. I’m not saying everyone has to wear suits and ties or frilly dresses, but the too short skirts and shorts, see-through and low cut tops, the pants down around the knees, hats on sideways or backwards is NOT acceptable at ANY age if you are looking to be taken serisously. Just my MHO, of course.
It’s not usually an age based thing but an environmentally influenced thing. Funny (unrelated) story: My brother works for a market research company and handled an account for The Men’s Warehouse. The guy who owns it (I can’t remember his name, Zimmer maybe, but he’s the guy who says “You’re gonna like the way you look. I guarantee it”) showed up to the meeting wearing birkenstocks, cut-off shorts, and a tie dye t-shirt!
